Getting back to dancing!

March 30, 2022
Good news contra dancers- we’ve reserved dates with the Pine Forest Grange for the Fall of 2022. Our first scheduled dance is on Saturday October 8th, 2022. Dances will continue every second Saturday until April of 2023.
In the meantime, if you’re interested in other dance opportunities, Bend’s local square dance club the High Desert Dancers is putting on two free community dance parties to be held at our dance venue, the Pine Forest Grange, 63214 Boyd Acres Road. The first hour of the evening is open to everyone. This is one way the HDD group advertizes their club and lesson series. Come and meet some of the other folks that use the Grange Hall! You are also welcome to stay and watch the club dancing which follows, there will be squares and cued ballroom dance (round dancing).
The community dance parties are:
Saturday, April 16th, 6-7pm, with Scott Zinser calling, Mainstream Square dance following at 7pm..
Sat., April 30th, 6-7 pm, with Jay Henderson calling, Mainstream Square dance following at 7pm.

Looking Forward to Fall 2022

After a long 2 year break from contra dancing we are looking forward to dancing again this Fall! We are in the process of reserving dates for this coming year – stay tuned.

In the meantime there will be some other dance and music opportunities, & we’ll send out an email for those events.

If you are not on our email reminder list, send us a line at bendcontra@gmail.com. We’ll send you a reminder a few weeks before the event.

Dances on Hiatus

When the coronavirus is under control we will resume dances, but for now our dance schedule is empty. -It’s hard to maintain distancing when you’re dancing with pretty much everyone in the room.

When we resume dancing we will send out an email. Shoot us an email at bendcontra@gmail.com and let us know you’d like to be added to the reminder list.

Dance March 14th Canceled

Sadly, we’ve decided not to hold the contra dance on Saturday March 14th.

With the close contact involved in Contra dance, it seemed unwise to expose folks to any extra risk of virus exposure. Again, the dance is canceled.
If you know of any dancers who may not see this message, please pass the word along.

Also I’ve included a message from the Country Dance and Song Society recommending canceling dance events.

If you would still like to support the Ballybogs Band they will be playing Saturday afternoon at Mcmenamins in Father Luke’s Room 1 – 3 pm in celebration of St Patrick’s day.

Thanks for your support. When this situation has run it’s course, let’s get back to dancing!

New Recommendations for COVID-19 from CDSS
Updated 3/12/2020

It’s time for us to do what we do best: take care of each other.

With the emergence and spread of COVID-19 on our continent, we all need to make adjustments in our actions and expectations. Listed below are current recommendations for participants and organizers, along with links to helpful information. The most important thing is for everyone to take care of each other, prepare for events being cancelled or postponed, and actively monitor WHO, CDC, Canadian Public Health, and State Health Department recommendations.

NEW RECOMMENDATIONS: In line with CDSS’s own plans, we recommend that in-person participatory art events originally scheduled through the end of April be suspended or cancelled. According to the WHO, “This is a controllable pandemic.” If we work together as a nation to slow the transmission, our health system will be able to manage the virus and provide adequate care for those who are ill.1

Our dance, song, and music traditions will not go away if we need to hit the pause button for a while. They’ve made it through population migrations, world wars, and the rise of digital entertainment. Dancing and singing together will continue with gusto after the initial virus has run its course. Be kind and understanding with the dancers, singers, musicians, callers, and organizers around you.

Holiday Contra Dance 12-14-19
